AMS 8th Graders Travel to Washington DC

AMS 8th Graders Travel to Washington DC

From April 22-24, 2026, Anderson Middle School 8th Graders and adult chaperones traveled to Gettysburg and Washington DC for the optional annual trip.

This trip has been made available for all 8th graders for the last two decades to connect to the 8th grade social studies curriculum.

The first stop on the trip was to the Gettysburg Civil War Museum in Pennsylvania and a guided tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield. On day 2, students visited the US Capitol and explored the National Archives and National Mall to visit Smithsonian Museums. In the afternoon, students visited Arlington National Cemetery, where they witnessed the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After Arlington, students visited the Jefferson and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorials. That evening, students visited the Pentagon Memorial, honoring the lives lost on September 11 and visited the Korean War, Vietnam and Lincoln Memorials.

On Day 3, students visited Mount Vernon, where students toured George Washington’s historic home and grounds before heading home.

Mike Ross, AMS Principal, shared, “We hope all of our 8th grade students who attended enjoyed this incredible experience and created memories that will last a lifetime.”
