Week 2: Number Corner, Problems & Investigations & Work Places
Bridges in Mathematics includes three main components that students will engage in daily to build on their mathematical thinking: Number Corner, Problems & Investigations and Work Places.
Number Corner provides daily practice with important math concepts through engaging calendar-based routines. Students explore patterns, numbers, shapes and problem-solving as a class. This helps build fluency, flexible thinking and strong connections between math ideas. Ask your child about the patterns they notice on their Calendar Card. A new Calendar Card is revealed every day.
Problems & Investigations are the core lessons in Bridges where students explore new math concepts. Lessons begin with real-world problems or hands-on activities to spark curiosity, thinking and talking. Teachers facilitate class discussions and support students to develop an understanding and confidence with grade-level concepts. Ask your child about the strategy that they learned during their investigation.
Work Places are hands-on math games and activities that let students practice skills in fun and engaging ways. Students often work in partners or small groups to strengthen their understanding, build their fact fluency and practice strategies.
