On December 18, the Burton Chess Club met to compete amongst each other in a friendly chess tournament. The Chess Club, funded as part of the Berkley Education Foundation’s Enrichment Program, meets on Thursdays from 3:15-4:15 pm in the Burton Media Center and is run by a team of parent volunteers. This tournament was organized by local chess coach Priya Ramdas. The event was an unrated tournament (results do not affect official chess ratings) and was open to Burton students in grades 1–5, with 34 students participating.

The first-place winners, each earning 3 points by winning all three games, were Charlie Feiler (grade 4), Alexander Marras (grade 5) and Finn Wagman (grade 4). The second-place winners, with 2.5 points each (two wins and one draw), were Joe Elftman (grade 4), Zachary Friedman (grade 2), Ezra Gunitskiy (grade 2), Rose Mumma (grade 2) and Ezra Stav (grade 2).

The Berkley Education Foundation funds enrichment courses free of charge to elementary and middle school students to bring unique experiences to students and to enhance their learning.
