Middle School Teachers Collaborate and Reflect on New English Curriculum Pilot

Middle School Teachers Collaborate and Reflect on New English Curriculum Pilot

Berkley Schools’ Teaching & Learning Department is currently working with middle school teachers to run an English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum.

On February 9th, the ELA Pilot Team came together for a full day of collaboration and reflection as they continued moving forward in the pilot process. The morning focused on reviewing both qualitative and quantitative data that has been collected using a structured protocol to notice trends, raise questions and reflect on what the evidence suggests about student learning. Grounded in a shared vision of empowering lifelong readers and critical thinkers, educators engaged in meaningful discussions about instructional resources, assessment practices and the next steps for supporting all learners.

In the afternoon, the team shifted into planning mode, working together to prepare for the next phase of the pilot program. Teachers shared ideas, identified milestones ahead and strengthened connections across buildings as they continued refining an ELA experience built on diverse texts, authentic writing and rich discussion. Emilee Moseley, Secondary Literacy Coach, shared, “We are grateful for the thoughtful and dedicated work of our pilot teachers and look forward to the continued progress of this important initiative in our middle schools.
