Pattengill Students Participate in a Chanukah Workshop

On December 15, 2025, Pattengill students took part in a Chanukah Workshop. During the workshop, students participated in a live demonstration of olive-oil making, where they helped press olives and observed the oil-extraction process in real time. The workshop provided students with an engaging, hands-on way to learn about Chanukah traditions through experiential learning. Students also had the opportunity to create their own Chanukah candles using beeswax.

The Chanukah Workshop was organized by Alyssa Klein, General Education Social Worker at Pattengill, and made possible in part through funding from the Pattengill PTA’s DEI Committee. The program was led by Rabbi Mendel Polter from the Woodward Avenue Shul, who is involved in educational outreach with local public school students and co-directs the Jewish Student Organization (JSO) at Norup and Berkley High School.

Through the story of Chanukah, students learned the importance of being a light in the world by doing good deeds, showing kindness, respect and consideration toward others, and demonstrating courage by standing up for what is right
