Save the Date for the 2026 MLK Day Event: A Day On, Not a Day Off

On Monday, January 19, 2026, the community is invited to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr for the annual Day On, Not a Day Off event, with the cities and school districts of Berkley, Clawson, and Royal Oak. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast together, participate in a Freedom Walk and complete volunteer activities such as donation sorting, mural creation and blanket making.

This year’s event takes place at Clawson High School (101 Phillips Ave, Clawson, MI 48017) and begins at 9 am.

The event committee will also be collecting donations to support the following groups:

  • Redford Brightmoor Initiative
  • Cass Community Social Services
  • Judson Center
  • Welcome Inn
  • Salvation Army
  • Open Hands Food Pantry
  • Clawson Food Pantry
  • VA Hospital

Guests who attend the event are invited to bring donations with them. Donation items requested are listed below, or the public can donate through the Amazon Wish List.

  • Food items: Canned meat/protein, cereal, PB&J, granola bars, soup, pasta, sauce, individually packed snack items
  • Home items: Toilet paper, kleenex, dish soap, paper towels, laundry detergent, surface cleaner, sponges, bath towels, kitchen towels, twin sheets and blankets
  • Toiletries: Shampoo/conditioner (including the following brands: Shea Moisture, As I Am, Curls, Aunt Jackie's), deodorant, shaving cream, feminine products, bars of soap, razors, toothpaste/toothbrushes
  • Diapers and pull-ups: All sizes, no opened packages
  • New children's books: Infant through middle school age
  • Clothing: Socks (all sizes), underwear (men and children), winter hats (adult), infant and children’s clothing (gently used or new)

 

For those unable to participate in the event, the organizers encourage people to donate through the Amazon Wish List or drop off donations the morning of the event.

 

Items will be collected through 11:30 am and then delivered that day by volunteers.
