Welcome to The Den

On Thursday, August 20, The Den was open to students, families and the public. This Open House took place in two parts, an afternoon tour for students and their families in the Adult Transition Program and an evening tour for students, families and the public.

 

The turnout for the Open House was great with many families visiting to learn more about the District Robotics programs as well as many former Cana Lutheran Church parishioners who came to see how the space was transformed for student learning and discovery.

 

The Den was purchased in 2024 and renovations have included: converting the sanctuary area into the Robotics practice field, build room and programming room; converting the old lounge area into a community room for meetings and gatherings; updating the office spaces for ATP ancillary and support staff; and renovating the garden level into three classrooms, one sensory room, a kitchen fully equipped with two separate stations, a mock-apartment for practicing life skills and a cafe area for eating meals. In addition, the building went through extensive water-proofing, including building new underground water retainment areas, grading, new membrane sealing and new landscaping. 

 

After relocating a few years in a row, ATP students and families were very excited to be exploring their new, permanent home. Students enjoyed visiting the new classrooms, lockers with charging stations, the kitchen where they’ll cook for their business, Hoppy Puppy, and all of the new furniture. 

 

The Robotics spaces are used by the high school team, DaBears, as well as the middle school team the Bionic Bears and the ever growing elementary school teams.

 

Students in the ATP program will spend half of their day learning at The Den and the other half on job sites throughout the community
