Norup Futures Club Visits Oakland Community College

Norup Futures Club Visits Oakland Community College

Norup Futures is a middle school club that meets weekly during lunch to explore post-secondary opportunities through virtual interviews with professionals, field trips, and lessons. The club is sponsored by Norup's Middle School Counselor, Tim Folmar, and open to all students grades 6-8.

On Monday, December 5th, Norup Futures students traveled to Oakland Community College Auburn Hills Campus, on a field trip focused on post-secondary college and career exploration. Once they arrived on campus, students toured the buildings where police, fire, and EMS personnel train. K-9 Officers from West Bloomfield and Hazel Park shared information on what type of education and training is required to enter public safety and provided a demonstration with the dogs on their team, Rocky and Lonzo. After lunch, students toured the Advanced Manufacturing Building and saw the hands-on labs for welding, HVAC, auto repair, and electronics. The tour concluded with stops at the student library, counseling center, and tutoring center.
