First Day of School Message from Mr. Meloche

Dear Berkley High School students, parents and guardians,
By now, I hope that all of your kids have come home to tell you what a great first day they had at Berkley High School. Of course, many students are likely exhausted from their first six period schedule in over a year. Others are probably remembering (and yearning for) last year’s 9:00 start and 2:30 finish. If they are like me, however, today left them feeling a satisfying kind of “tired.”
As I walked around the building today, I witnessed positive interactions all around. Strolling the hallways during passing time, I heard laughing and could easily tell how many students were smiling behind their masks. Peeking into classrooms, I observed great energy and interaction. During lunch, I met many new students and am looking forward to building upon those relationships. All of these things collectively brought great joy to my day as life at BHS (almost) felt like old times.
Now, after every first day of school, my wife traditionally congratulates me for making it through. Jokingly, I always reply “one down, one-hundred and seventy nine to go.” Although my response is usually sarcastic in nature (pointing out that the school year is a marathon), I believe this one is a little more monumental. Therefore, in thinking about what we have all been through these past seventeen months, I’m going to enjoy this one and hope you do as well.
Here’s to 179 more great days at Berkley High School. Let’s continue to make them great!
Take care,
Andy Meloche
Principal
P.S. Oliver and Lucy were super pumped for their first day this morning!
