Berkley High School PTSA

Parent involvement is critical to successful student achievement. Research shows that when families become involved in their child’s education, academic performance improves, attendance is better and students overall have a more positive attitude about school.

Please join the BHS  Parent, Teacher and  Student Association and also consider an additional donation. Through your generosity, the PTSA supports Teacher and Staff Appreciation initiatives, supports the Yearbook and donates to The Senior All Night Party and other Senior activities. The PTSA also coordinates a recognition for students who have  shown extraordinary levels of grit and determination throughout the year called the PTSA Student Perseverance Award.

We do not have formal fundraisers. Our budget is funded through a tax-deductible donation drive so we don’t interfere with student, sports or booster club fundraisers. Your tax-deductible donation is greatly appreciated!

As always, please reach out with any questions, suggestions or ideas. We'd love to see you at one of our 2 remaining meetings this year. Please join us at Coffee & Bark in Berkley on March 19 or April 16 at 7:00pm. Come early and grab a coffee!

Founders Day
The year 2024 signifies the 125th Anniversary of National PTA, and 106th Year of the Michigan PTA. Each year the Berkley District PTA organization celebrates Founders Day by selecting a PTSA Member, Educator, and Support Staff of the Year to be recognized for each unit. Please take a few minutes to complete the short survey so that we may recognize the great work of our amazing BHS community.

The winners for each category will be acknowledged and celebrated during the districtwide Berkley Area PTSA Founders' Day on March 1st.

DEI Book Drive - Let's fill the Media Center!
To honor the upcoming months that celebrate Black History, Women’s History and LGBTQIA+ (among others), the PTSA is holding a book drive. We have asked our Media Specialist, Mrs. Terbrack to carefully curate an Amazon Wish List of titles that celebrate diverse authors or genres. A fundraising page for monetary donations that will be used in this effort has been set up on our Givebacks page. Help us fill the library with new and inclusive titles!

Valentine's for a Cause
To spread some love and cheer to the surrounding BHS community, the PTSA is hosting a student Valentine making session. Students will receive an email on how to sign up. But we also need YOUR help! If you could help purchase some craft items for us to use, we’d really appreciate it! Valentines will be sent to Oxford Towers and Beaumont Children's Hospital.

Operation Cold & Flu Season
Despite the Cold and Ice Days that closed school, it feels like the 78th day of January. Students are sniffling and coughing their way through the day. Classrooms are in need of tissues, hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. Can you send some of these items in with your student? Please remember to keep your student home if they are fevering.

BHS Voter Registration Drive
The PTSA is excited to hold a Voter Registration Drive in the coming months. More details to come on how your student (and YOU!)  can register to vote!

Below are listed many of the really exciting things happening in and around BHS. If you have questions or want to get involved, please contact the PTSA.

PTSA Perserverance Award

PTSA sponsors a gift recognition for students who have made significant gains over the course of the school year or who have overcome a personal challenge to succeed. Students are nominated by their teachers.

Berkley Education Foundation

The Berkley Education Foundation (BEF) is the fundraising arm for the Berkley School District. Its purpose is to maintain and enhance educational opportunities for all students in the BSD. It is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Founders Day

Founders Day is a nation-wide PTA event that seeks to recognize outstanding PTSA members, school staff and teachers. Nominations are taken each January and those chosen are recognized at a district-wide dinner in late February/ early March.

Membership

PTSA Memberships are sold beginning in August and throughout the year. A portion of the dues collected stay at BHS for the benefit of our students while the remainder support the state and national PTA in their efforts to lobby for educational issues. We encourage parents to support and join PTSA.

Off to the Races (OTTR)

OTTR is a fundraising event for the Berkley Education Foundation which includes simulated horse racing, a silent auction and a big vacation give-away. Each school’s PTA purchases the naming rights to a horse and provides goods and/or services for the auction.

PTSA Meetings

Typically held the third Tuesday of August or September, October, January, March and April. PTSA meetings are a great way to stay connected. Meetings for the 2023-2024 school year will be held at Coffee & Bark in Berkley. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram (@berkleyhighschoolptsa) for more information.

Teacher Appreciation

The Teacher Appreciation Committee organizes a spring luncheon each year for the teachers and staff.

Tissue Drive

Our teachers never have enough tissues so the PTSA steps in to help by organizing a tissue drive during the back to school season. Tissue donations are gratefully accepted year- round.

Tri-Community Coalition

The Tri-Community Coalition is a coordinated effort among many school districts in the Huntington Woods, Berkley and Oak Park area to reduce the use of drugs and alcohol among all K-12 students.
