Important Student Spectator Expectations

Dear Berkley High School community,
Berkley Schools, in association with the Michigan High School Athletic Association, promotes sportsmanship for all student athletes and spectators.
Berkley High School expects all spectators to show respect and sportsmanship throughout the game and refrain from negative cheers, chants or behavior. Game days are an exciting experience for all. We believe cheers at games should be of a positive, encouraging nature in support of one’s team.
The following behaviors are unacceptable and prohibited:
- Use of alcohol, tobacco or vape pens
- Throwing objects
- Foul or abusive language and obscene gestures
- Disruptive or unruly behavior
- Noisemakers, bullhorns and speakers
Each student should understand clearly that good sportsmanship is an expectation at both home and away games. We expect that students at away games will cooperate fully with game supervisors of the host school.
Serving as a spectator at a Berkley High School game is a privilege and we expect students to serve as an example of sportsmanship through positive and respectful behavior to athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators. We believe that officials in games have difficult decisions to make and should be treated with respect, whether one agrees with a decision or not.
Spectators that display unacceptable behavior may be removed from the game and/or receive a citation from Berkley Public Safety. Student spectators who display inappropriate behavior may face disciplinary consequences from Berkley administration.
Sincerely,
Taylor Horn
Athletic Director
