Berkley High School Celebrates Homecoming
Students kicked off Homecoming week with decorating the hallways in the color of their grade level: Seniors - Blue, Juniors - Red, Sophomores - Green, Freshmen - White.
Powderpuff
Homecoming Week festivities continued at the annual Powderpuff game at Hurley Field on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, where Junior and Senior girls played a flag football game against each other. The Seniors were victorious over the Juniors with a final score of 12-6.
Senior Sunrise
At the Senior Sunrise, students gathered at Hurley Field at 6:45 am on Friday, September 30. BHS staff handed out bagels as they greeted students, and as the sunrise approached, students laid out blankets, took photos and caught up with friends. They then took a class photo.
Pep Rally
The Homecoming pep rally was held at Hurley Field September 30, the afternoon of the Homecoming Game. Emcees Ruby Katkowsky and Riley Stechschulte hosted the event for BHS Student Leadership. Celebrations kicked off with fall sports being recognized. Performances from the band, drumline, dance team, cheerleaders and Encore! followed. BHS Student Leadership organized fun activities including thawing a frozen shirt, tug-of-war, and a pie eating contest for students to face off against each other. The pep rally ended with the Homecoming Royalty being crowned:
- Seniors - Maya Collins-Cokley and Lilly Crum
- Juniors - Drew Lash and Shea O’Brien
- Sophomores - Jessica Mack and Daniel Richmond
- Freshman - Marianna Strat and Jada Smith
Homecoming Game
The Berkley Bears played against the Royal Oak Ravens at the Homecoming football game on September 30th. The marching band led the crowd in the fight song, the alma mater and “Go Bears” and the student section kept the energy up at the game. It was a full house as the Bears took on their rivals. The Bears beat the Ravens 30-7.
Spirits were high throughout the game, and the students section, the Bear Pack, made sure to work in their tradition of a roller coaster. At halftime, student performances included the dance team and the marching band and Homecoming Royalty was presented to the crowd.
