Fire Alarm Today

Hello Norup families:

I am writing to you today to let you know that we had a very brief unexpected fire alarm right before noon during an elementary lunch.  One of our students brought some Ramen noodles to microwave for lunch and forgot to put water in the cup.  When they opened the microwave it started billowing smoke which set off all the alarms.  Students exited the building as they were supposed to and school personnel dealt with the microwave immediately.  We brought the kids back in once the issue was dealt with.  

The alarms are connected to public safety so they arrived en masse in under two minutes.  The emergency response systems worked efficiently and promptly.  Police arrived and cleared us to continue for the day.  

Everyone is 100% safe and no one was harmed or injured.  Our fire drill system, which we have practiced several times this year, worked as they were supposed to and this is why we practice them.  We will be doing some followup education with students on microwave use.
