In order to attend school, up-to-date immunizations or waivers are required for Kindergarten, 7th grade and any newly enrolled student in the Berkley School District. The Berkley School District strictly adheres to the Immunization rule and students will be excluded from school if the Michigan Immunization Rule is not followed. If your child is complete and up to date with their immunizations, there is no action needed. We do not need a copy of your child’s immunization records unless you’d like to provide them.
If your child is not up to date, please schedule an appointment with your child’s physician as soon as possible to receive the necessary immunizations, or obtain a medical waiver, before the new school year begins. If you are unsure if your child’s immunizations are up to date, please contact your child’s physician’s office. If a non-medical waiver (for religious or philosophical reasons) is needed, it can only be obtained from a local health department. Please contact the Oakland County Health Division to set up an appointment to obtain your waiver. These appointments fill up very quickly, so it is recommended that you make one as soon as possible if you know you're going to obtain a waiver. If your child has been opted out of reporting through MCIR (Michigan Care Improvement Registry), this does not waive immunization requirements for school. The parents/legal guardians are still responsible for providing a current immunization record or waiver to the school office so your child can attend. Students who have been opted out will not have their immunization information reported to the OCHD.
Please visit https://www.oakgov.com/community/health/public-health-services/immunizations for additional information on OCHD immunization clinic appointments or call the OCHD Nurse-On-Call at 1-800-848-5533 to schedule your clinic immunization or waiver education appointment.
