Welcome Back Message from the Principal

Rogers Principal Newsletter

Dear Rogers Families,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! Let’s welcome this new year with optimism and excitement as we take some steps toward normalcy. I and the rest of Rogers’ staff are thrilled to be welcoming your children back to school!  After all that our students have experienced during the pandemic, our continued commitment to fostering our three PBIS Rs - respect, responsibility and resilience - and our dedication to creating a diverse and equitable learning environment will undoubtedly help our students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Knowing that there may be some anxiety surrounding this year’s particular return, it is my hope that the information provided below will be just what you and your children need to feel confident and ready to return back to school.

Beginning of the Year Important Information

Please review the four documents in this Beginning of the Year Important Information folder. This includes information about needed daily materials, lockers, door assignments, entry and dismissal procedures, our specials schedule, lunch, snacks, parent responsibilities, our traffic pattern, COVID-19 safety procedures and more. We appreciate you taking the time to read this information and understand our expectations and procedures. Our website is also a great resource for other important information about our school.

Return to School Plan 2021

To minimize the spread of COVID-19, our district has numerous COVID-19 health measures in place, following guidance from the CDC and OCHD. You may review our Return to School Plan 2021 on our district website. Remember, all students must stay home when sick (and be symptom free to return), wear a mask in school and maintain as much physical distance as possible. Please notify us as soon as possible if your child is diagnosed with COVID-19, so that we can work with health officials for confidential contact tracing. Together, we can keep our students, staff and community healthy in a safe and welcoming environment at school!

Teacher Assignments

Our teachers will officially return to work next Tuesday, August 24th. On that day, you will receive a welcome letter from your child’s teacher via email which will let you know your child’s classroom placement.

Building Staff

Please join me in welcoming our new speech pathologist, Carli Jones, and in wishing Jen Connelly well as she transitions to working full time at Pattengill. Carli comes to us from the Waterford School District where she was providing speech and language services to a wide range of students (kindergarten through age 26). She is highly skilled and qualified for this position, and we are fortunate to have her joining our team!

While Christian Wiegand will not be teaching in a classroom setting this year, we are equally fortunate to have her back with us in an enrichment and support capacity. Mrs. Wiegand will also be teaching 4th grade math at Burton Elementary and will serve as a mentor for some of our virtual learners.

You will find a full list of Rogers’ staff on our website.

Lunch

Students may bring their lunch or choose to eat a school lunch by placing an order with their teacher in the morning. Lunch is free to all students again this year. Aramark continues to be our food service provider and nutritional information will be provided via their Nutrislice site this year. We are awaiting the August menu which will be posted on our website as soon as it is available.

5th Grade Options

Because our 5th graders have not yet been fitted for instruments or given a chance to choose band, orchestra or choir, all 5th grade students will have an opportunity to participate in rotations to learn about all three options, before they attend a Fitting NIght.  They will receive an introduction to their choices and spend some time reviewing necessary concepts. Our music staff is working on a plan for this instruction and our Fitting Night.

In closing, one of the greatest characteristics of Rogers’ learning community is the genuine care and compassion shared between staff, students and parents. Rogers is a place where staff and families come together to ensure that the children entrusted into our care grow and learn to the best of their ability. Thank you for your partnership in education. I look forward to an amazing year!

Sincerely,

Beth Meacham
