Principal's Update: 9/27/2021

Dear Rogers Community,
I don't know about you, but I am happy that fall weather is upon us. It was nice to go hiking this weekend without being attacked by bugs; and my husband, dog and I enjoyed walking around at the DIY Street Fair and Funky Ferndale Art Fair. I hope all of you enjoyed the weekend too!
Here are some things to know as we transition from September to October:
Peace Day
This past Tuesday, we celebrated the International Day of Peace at Rogers. All classrooms watched a video about the meaning and importance of this day, before going into the hallway to sings songs and recite a Peace Day pledge together.
M-STEP 2021 Results
Families of students who took the M-STEP last spring, please read this important information about test scores.
Picture Day
Picture Day was this past Friday. If your child was absent, please note that Picture Retake Day will be on Friday, November 5th. Kaiser will also take candid and group shots on that day.
Traffic Pattern and Procedures
To help ensure everyone's safety, thank you for following our traffic pattern and procedures as well as obeying traffic laws. You may find an explanation of our traffic pattern and safety procedures in the Parent Information section of our website, under Traffic.
COVID-19 Cases
In the event of a positive case of COVID-19, contact tracing is completed and close contacts are notified. This is different from last year when letters were sent out to the entire school community. You may find information about cases in the Berkley School District on our District's COVID-19 Dashboard.
New Staff
We are fortunate to have Joe Carlson joining our team as a building substitute! Joe comes to us from the IXL Learning Center in South Lyon where he has been working as an assistant teacher in a Pre-K classroom. Joe also has experience working with school age children at IXL’s summer camp. He has a BA in history which he earned at Wayne State, a TEFL/TESOL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language/Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages) certificate and a Michigan Interim Teaching Certificate from #T.E.A.C.H. He entered the field of education for all the right reasons - the children - and we are fortunate that he has accepted a substitute position at Rogers. Joe will begin working at Rogers on October 1st.
Dress for the Weather
With fall upon us and winter just around the corner, a reminder for students to dress for the weather seems timely. Now more than ever, it is important for our students to spend time playing and learning outdoors, for fresh air and a break from wearing a mask. If at all possible, students go outside every day, even in light rain and snow; so dressing for the weather is essential. If your child is ever in need of any outdoor gear, please reach out to me.
Lunch Aide Jobs and Volunteers
Rogers is still in need of new lunch aides, and the job posting can be found on our district website. If you or anyone you know is interested in this position, please reach out to me. If you do not care to be employed as a lunch aide but would like to volunteer, we also appreciate having volunteers each day. To do this, please complete the volunteer application process outlined on our district website and sign up on our Sign-Up Genius forms. We have separate sign-ups for recess volunteers and lunch volunteers.
Thank you sharing your wonderful children with me and all of Rogers' staff. We all look forward to finishing out the month and entering October with many memorable learning experiences.
Sincerely,
Beth Meacham
Principal
