Principal's Update

Dear Rogers Community,

I hope that all of you enjoyed our February break!

Below are some things to know for the days and weeks to come.

Reading Month
March is Reading Month, and our Reading Month committee has planned an exciting month of activities for our students! Please see this Reading Month 2022 Google folder for important information, including a parent letter, calendar and information about Vocabulary Day and our Character Parade.

One Book, One School - Rogers Reads 2022
Our community-wide reading program "Rogers Reads" is back this year, thanks to our PTA which purchased Ways to Make Sunshine, by Renée Watson, for every Rogers family! Families are encouraged to share this book as a family read aloud.  A suggested calendar, reading activities, and discussion questions can be found in this packet which is located in the Reading Month 2022 Google folder. The books will be sent home today, Monday, February 28th.

MAEA Youth Arts Month
Congratulations to the following students for having artwork in the Michigan Art Education Association's Youth Arts Month show: William S. (TK), Amelia W-C (K), Emersyn G. (3rd), Riley B. (4th), and Courtney G. (4th). Their amazing artwork was on display at Oakland Schools for the past few weeks while being adjudicated. The results from that are in and we're happy to congratulate Will S. and Courtney G. for having their artwork further selected to the State Top 100!

District Rapid Testing Clinic
Because our COVID testing numbers have significantly decreased, the daily testing clinic will be moved back to Tyndall effective Tuesday, March 1st. The time will remain the same (7:15 am - 8:00 am).

SEL Day 2022
March 11th is SEL Day. Our teachers, school social worker and school counselor are consistently focusing on our students' social-emotional learning and advocating for their needs, using our Second Step curriculum, friendship groups and more. SEL Day is a great opportunity to recognize all of their efforts and to stress the importance of continuing this essential work. SEL4US is a helpful resource for information on this topic.

Hundreds Day Kudos
Thanks and kudos to our 1st grade students and teachers for making Hundreds Day a philanthropic endeavor this year! They set a goal of collecting 100 items to donate to a local food pantry and ended up collecting, counting and donating 150 food items to help others in need.

PTA Founders' Day
Congratulations to our PTA Founders' Day award recipients: Teacher of the Year, 2nd Grade Teacher Rikki Kwas; Support Staff Person of the Year, School Social Worker Becky Smith and PTA Member of the Year, PTA President Rachel Mendoza! They are all beyond deserving of this recognition and we are fortunate to have them in our Rogers school family!

Mask Requirements
As explained in a communication from Superintendent Scott Francis, our District mask requirements remain in line with recommendations from the Oakland County Health Department and, effective today, Monday, February 28th, masks are strongly recommended. Teachers have explained this to our students, with the help of this short video. Thank you to Amelia T. and Layla J. as well as Ms. Smith and Mrs. Chudler for helping to make the video.

RNN
Thank you to Mrs. Maiuri and our 4th graders for producing Rogers Network News. There is no broadcast for the week of February 28th. The next episode will be the week of March 14th.

BAAPN Meeting
Please see this BAAPN flyer for a description of this parent run organization and a list of meeting dates.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your children's education! Please reach out to me if you have questions or need anything.

Sincerely,

Beth Meacham
