Message from Mr. Meloche

Dear Berkley High School community,
While Thanksgiving break once seemed like a distant mile marker in the marathon that is our school year, we currently find it knocking on our doorstep. To me, Thanksgiving break is a great milestone to reach each year because it gives staff, students and families a chance to hit the pause button and regroup for the next leg of the journey.
As I reflect upon our first thirteen weeks of the school year, I can’t help but look back with pride and gratitude. From my vantage point, this has been one of the best starts to a school year that I can ever remember. In walking around the building and popping into classrooms, one of the things I’m most thankful for is the thoughtfulness and leadership our students display each day. While I haven’t worked in any other school but BHS, I talk to a fair amount of local Principals and it’s become quite evident to me that there’s just something special about Berkley students.
Additionally within those classrooms and around the building, I’m always so thankful for our staff. Berkley High School is, by far, staffed with the kindest and most caring individuals I have ever met. Our staff works hard for our students, inspires them daily to be their best selves and empowers them to accomplish their goals. I think that our kids are incredibly lucky to be in this space and know that their development and growth is a direct outcome of the positive culture we’ve created.
Of course, I would like to also note that students and staff represent two of the three legs that prop up the stool that is BHS. Without the support of our community, we all know that a two-legged stool would quickly topple over. Therefore, I would like to say thank you to every parent, guardian, grandparent, aunt, uncle, neighbor and friend that has invested their time and efforts into our students. To me, this community is the one of the unsung heroes of Berkley High School and I’m thankful to work in a place that has the same goals and vested interests as we do.
Truly, I hope that everyone has a wonderful break and enjoys some time off with family, friends, food and (maybe) football. I appreciate everything that everyone brings to the table and feel privileged and fortunate to get to call this place home.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Take care,
Andy Meloche
