New Principal Announcement

Dear Burton Community,
Thank you to all community members who shared their feedback with the District regarding the new Burton principal. The new principal was selected from a pool of over 60 applicants after interviews with Burton staff, parents/guardians, and District administrators. The interview committees focused on following bias-free interview and hiring practices and considered the feedback from the Burton community on what the next leader should embody. The Burton community shared they were seeking an instructional leader, someone who was focused on DEI, and a good communicator who will focus on relationship building. After careful consideration of each candidate’s credentials and the needs of the Burton community, Lauren Fragomeni was chosen to serve as Burton’s Principal.
Mrs. Fragomeni officially joins the Berkley family on July 1. She comes to Berkley from the Troy School District as an elementary teacher at Wass Elementary with an outstanding reputation as a leader.
Mrs. Fragomeni has been an elementary teacher in the Troy School District for 16 years. As a teacher, she has had opportunities to lead her peers at both the school and district level. Lauren is a graduate of the Galileo Leadership consortium which focuses on teacher leadership and equitable access for all, she was mentored by her current principal for several years in leadership, facilitated professional development sessions with colleagues in instructional technology, is a co-leader of her school’s leadership team and reading goal team and was a member of the Oakland Schools Cultures of Thinking cohort. Mrs. Fragomeni has experience leading many of the current initiatives the Berkley School District is implementing in areas such as student engagement, elementary literacy curriculum, culturally responsive teaching, technology, and more.
Lauren received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University. She earned a Master in Reading and Language Arts from Oakland University and will complete her Educational Specialist in Leadership from Oakland University this spring.
Mrs. Fragomeni looks forward to building on the great work already in progress at Burton and will lead the Burton community with honesty and compassion. Please see the note below from Mrs. Fragomeni to the Burton community, and join me in welcoming Lauren to the Berkley Schools family.
Sincerely,
Scott Francis
Superintendent

Dear Families,
I am excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Burton Elementary School. My name is Lauren Fragomeni, and I have been an educator for over 16 years, with a focus on teaching lower elementary grades. I attended Troy Schools growing up and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in elementary and physical education. I attended Oakland University for my master’s degree in reading and language arts, and my education specialist degree in leadership. I am thrilled to bring my experience to this community, and I am eager to begin this new journey with all of you.
My vision for Burton is to foster a joyful, safe, and inclusive school for all families, students, and staff. I believe my core values of honesty, joy, empathy, and kindness are essential to creating a supportive and successful learning environment. I am also excited to learn from the experienced and dedicated Burton staff and to work closely with all members of the Burton community.
