Burton’s art teacher Dorota Jakuc has spent time this year fundraising for EnChroma glass for students who are colorblind. According to the EnChroma website, EnChroma lenses filter light to alleviate the red/green color cone sensitivity overlap that leads to color confusion. Approximately 80% of people with red-green color blindness will see an expanded range of visible colors and distinguish shades more accurately.

Students received their glasses in May, one at a time with Mrs. Jakuc and their families, in the Burton Art Studio. Students had a chance to get used to the effects of the EnChroma glasses and were able to take them home to continue to adjust to a more colorful world.

Mrs. Jakuc fundraised through Art to Remember, a company that turns student artwork into keepsakes for families, to help fund the EnChroma tools.

Burton Principal Lauren Fragomeni said, “Mrs. Jakuc has been very intentional with her accommodations to support students in the art studio who are colorblind.”
