6th Grade Orchestra Students Learn Persistence & Pride

In Norup’s 6th grade orchestra class recently, Director Ben Moy took time in class to talk about what a musician has to do every time they play a note. Mr. Moy shared, “As relatively new musicians, it is natural for some 6th grade students to struggle with some aspects of playing an instrument, especially note reading. When you really think about all the different things that have to happen instantaneously and repeatedly just to make music, it's very impressive.”
This lesson helped to remind students that what they're doing isn't easy, and that they should be proud of how far they've come, even if they may struggle with one aspect or another of playing an instrument. After the discussion, students participated in an activity where one student was the "music to brain" part of the music making process and another student was the "brain to muscles" part of the music making process, with some pretty funny results.
