BHS Choirs Invited to Perform at Carnegie Hall

The Berkley High School A Cappella and Belle Tones choirs were invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in the Spring for the Octavo Festival Chorus. This prestigious invitation was extended by Dr. Brandon Johnson, the Director of Choral Activities at Eastern Michigan University. Dr. Johnson heard the choirs perform last year at Choral Festival and will be the guest conductor in New York.
Choir Director Julie Smith shared, “Our students have earned this rare and exciting opportunity through their commitment to choir and their passion for learning.”
While in New York, students will have the opportunity to experience the following:
- A soundcheck and performance at New York City’s legendary Carnegie Hall, Isaac Stern Auditorium
- A post-concert buffet reception
- Audio and video archival recordings of the performance
- Commemorative framed mini marquee poster for the ensemble
- Certificates of participation for each performer
- Three-night stay at a Midtown Manhattan hotel
- MTA Transit pass for use on subways and buses
- Group tickets to a Broadway show
- Top of the Rock observation deck
The trip is being funded by the Berkley School District ($1,000 per student) and through fundraising. If you’d like to help the choirs get to Carnegie, you can donate to their Vertical Raise.
